Personified Times

June-September 2022

It feels as though I open all recent newsletters with a slight apology for their infrequency, but hopefully, this finds all of you well. We have several projects, successes, and general updates that need to be shared. Enjoy!

COPQ Success!

"In June 2022, Carol Stream completed its 8th consecutive Quarter of achieving the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) goal, which we set for returns below 1/10th of 1%.

Packaging Personified formalized this KPI in 2015. After years of hard work and implementing our revised Quality Inspection Plan in mid-2019, Carol Stream hit the target for the first time at the end of the 2nd Quarter of 2020. The trend continues going into year 3.

An accomplishment on this scale takes the entire organization working together as a cohesive unit. We cannot express how impressed and proud of our team we are." - Fred W., Quality Manager, CS.

"In addition to our taco celebration, we are happy to announce that our team's effort and success led us to create a new rewards program. The program uses the same goals we have had in place for COPQ and scrap but now includes additional benefits for beating those goals. Any financial savings achieved beyond our targets will be equally distributed among all team members at Packaging Personified at the end of the year. We are thrilled to be in a position to set up this program. These accomplishments take a special level of teamwork and commitment at every level of the organization. Each team member is a critical contributor to supporting our ability to achieve such impressive numbers. "

Joe Imburgia, General Manager

3 New Wicketers for Carol Stream!

“Packaging Personified successfully introduced three new Mamata wicketers this June. These additions support our efforts to grow, improve ease of operation for our team and deliver quality products to our customers.

We want to thank the maintenance team and the entire Converting Department for their support. Your efforts led and hard work paved the road for a successful launch. We are looking forward to continuous improvements as the team progresses.”

- Sean S., Plant Manager and Robby B., Converting Manager

Anniversary!

Kyle W.

Congratulations to Kyle W. for his 15 years of service milestone! Kyle started his employment with Packaging Personified, Inc. in August of 2007. Since then, Kyle has held many positions within the department, working his way up to first pressman and department lead.

“Kyle is one of the department’s most well-rounded, dependable team members. His knowledge of the press department and his friendly, outgoing personality make working with him fun. Kyle’s loyalty and dedication for 15 years and counting say a lot about who Kyle is. Not only is he a friend to every one of his coworkers, but he is also a true leader and role model. Our employees are and always will be our greatest asset. I think I can speak for us all when I say Kyle is every bit of a great asset to us.”
-Will T., Pressroom Supervisor, Sparta, MI

For fun, we asked Kyle a few questions:

Q1. What brought you here to PPI 15 years ago?

A1. I was 18 years old and needed a job. I had vocational school experience in offset printing.

Q2. What do you like most about your job?
A2. Problem-solving. Being able to work through, and fix the different issues and then seeing them work to have a smooth run. It doesn’t work every time, but it’s a rewarding feeling when they do.

Q3. Would you recommend this job to other people considering this career path?
A3. Absolutely. I have and will continue to do so.

Q4. Where do you see yourself 15 years from now?
A4. Sitting in Cabo! Hopefully continuing to help in any way that I can.

Q5. Any advice or knowledge you picked up over the last 15 years that you would like to share with a less experienced employee in this field?
A5. Don’t beat yourself up over a mistake. Learn from it and move on. It can make it worse if you don’t let it go.

Personified Exchange Program

Thank you to Lloyd and Jay for participating in our Personified Exchange Program!

The program strengthens communication between our manufacturing facilities and supports driving our goal of continuous improvement.

Lloyd and Jay visited Carol Stream with goals focused on the Converting Department, specifically on our plans to add additional machines in 2023.

Coming soon!

Our 10th extruder project is more than underway, it is almost complete! The line will be operational in the coming days, but I did not want to wait to send out the newsletter. Full details on the install and operation will be included in a future update!
